The chartered Science Advisory Board is developing advice for EPAon the use of science in environmental disaster response. The SAB has the goal of helping the Agency develop improved plans for responding to future environmental disasters.As background for this activity, the SAB invited several non-EPA experts to discuss their experiences with disaster response situations to explore how science might be better applied to future disasters. The SAB has also been briefed on EPA's approach to to environmental disaster response (i.e., Incidents of National Significance), based the framework of the [<a href="http://www.dhs.gov/xprepresp/committees/editorial_0566.shtm">National Response Plan</a><a href="http://www.epa.gov/epahome/exitepa.htm" title="EPA's External Link Disclaimer"><img src="http://www.epa.gov/epafiles/images/epafiles_misc_exitepadisc.gif" width="87" height="13" alt="Exit EPA Disclaimer" /></a>] and guidance in the [<a href="http://www.fema.gov/emergency/nims/index.shtm">National Incident Management System</a><a href="http://www.epa.gov/epahome/exitepa.htm" title="EPA's External Link Disclaimer"><img src="http://www.epa.gov/epafiles/images/epafiles_misc_exitepadisc.gif" width="87" height="13" alt="Exit EPA Disclaimer" /></a>].
